consider....

I am inspired. I have not even a miniscule of the following that Ali E. does, but she's raised almost $50,000 for Austism Speaks, an organization which supports research in the search for a cure for Austim. (Her son Simon is autistic.). Ali has the top badge at Six Degrees.org and it looks as though Kevin Bacon will be matching her donation to $10,000 for that charity.

I thought, why can't I do my part? As many of you know, my son Jack has life threatening food alleriges and every day we are reminded of it. He just had his 3rd birthday and we made him a special egg-free/nut free cake. Easter is next weekend. We have to be very careful to see what is inside those eggs at the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. He is starting to be aware. He sees us reading labels and asks, "no eggs?", "no nuts?" "Is it safe for me?"

It breaks my heart to have to say no to something he wants to try. But we live with it and continue to be careful. If only we could take the 'life threatening' part of the disease out, it'd be much easier (and less scary) to deal with.

If you have the urge to be generous this spring, consider clicking on my badge to the left and donating in Jack's name to the Food Allergy and Anaphalaxis Network.

and check this out- pretty cool.

i had a little girl with a peanut allergy two years ago. it really made me step back and realize how quickly life could change. it also made me realize how totally oblivious some of the other parents can be.
like that's news, eh?
