pride.

today mike and i got a sitter and headed into the city for some fun with some wznd college friends. all of the people in the pic below are friends from isu. since 50% of the people in this picture are gay, we found ourselves meeting up with them at the 39th annual pride parade.

i wasn't sure quite what to expect. i mean, the gay people i know (and i actually know many, it seems...) are nothing like the people i saw in today's parade. in fact, we talked about how this parade's covereage ends up fueling the stereotypes of gay people, however, it was entertaining nonetheless and was interesting to see this community proud of themselves. and our friends and mike and i had a great time together, and that's what counts.

my 2 favorite entries for the parade were the ROTC (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps- even my friend Rob, who is gay, said, "now THAT is gay".) and the float for Chicago's Red Eye newspaper (I think it was them- there were two red floats) but waaaay flamboyant.

we ended up missing half the parade because of an accident. the parade seemed to stop for a while, so we went up to our friend joe's friend matt's apt (in front of where we were standing for the parade) and hung out there with about 40 other people until it got too hot in this tiny 1 bedroom apt. so we just left and mike and i headed home. it took us about 45 min. to get out of our parking spot. we headed over to superdawg for a late lunch and then headed home. the kids had a great time with erin the babysitter and it gave us a much needed break to have some time to hang out without constant interruptions and questioning... :)

All that gayness made you hungry for a hot dog, natch.
