...and it's over!
so christmas is now officially over. well, i guess not officially time-wise, but activity wise, yes. it's 9:30, all the gifts have been opened, set up, played with, put away, etc. all the food has been disposed of, made into doggy bags or eaten, and finally, we can relax!
we're so lucky to have such generous family and friends. we really got some nice things. jack got some fun new toys. i think he likes his cars the best. he also really is liking his aquadoodle mat. i'm especially excited that we got a card table and chairs and some new sheets!
jack got sick today (threw up today) -- seems to be a holiday thing- the excitement? the crowd of family? the off my schedule thing? i don't know, but both thanksgiving and christmas had jack off. thanksgiving (if you'll remember, palominos) jack screamed his head off in the middle of the night, and we ended up leaving bloomington to drive home in the middle of the night. this time, jack just threw up at grandma's house. no reason, no real warning, just kind of off all day, and whamo. he got mike good. for whatever reason i thought to pack him an extra outfit. i had really stopped doing that after the spitting up days were done.
grandpa and i took the older kids to see polar express in 3D at the imax theater. should have been a great holiday movie to see on christmas day but we left in the middle because of the kids- i think they were a little scared by the dark and loud. not to mention, i felt like throwing up myself (seriously) because watching a whole movie in 3D (complete with the goofy glasses) is akin to me riding in the 'way back' of the Explorer on any car trip. i seem to get sick with motion sickness pretty easily.
roger ebert said this about polar express in 3D
"Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis create something deeper and more mysterious, more filled with wonderment, than your usual slam-bang family entertainment. The film has the
quality of a lot of lasting children's entertainment: It's a little creepy.
Not creepy in an unpleasant way, but in that sneaky, teasing way that lets
you know eerie things could happen."
i guess to a 4 and 6 year old it was too creepy. to me it was fun, is a great movie, but 3d is so not for me!
we're off to the Winter Wonderland at Navy Pier tomorrow. that should be a fun time, assuming jack doesn't wake up sick.

i was sick almost every christmas when i was a kid. i think you're right, it's the excitement and off-schedule-ness of it all.
have you taken jack to brookfield zoo at christmas? we're taking lily one night this week if the weather stays warmish. took our kids when they were little and it's awesome!
poor jack - hope he is feeling all better now!
Joey always gets sick around Christmas. This is the second year! Maybe it’s all the people germs! Poor kid I would love to see Polar Express in 3D. Sorry you had to leave in the middle
