back from the dunes...

i'll be the first to admit that hot, humid and sandy isn't my idea of the best vacation. i'll do hot, humid and pool, but add sand to it and it kind of drives me crazy. i can't stand sand sticking to me.
however, you can't resist spending time out at my inlaws summer home in the indiana dunes... it's a beautiful view and the water is clean. however, it is still hot, humid and sandy.
but not this week. this is the first week i can remember a july visit that was kind of chilly and damp. we actually went to a water park on what we thought was going to be the 'best' day of the week and it was only in the 70s... chilly.

despite all of that, and all of my complaining about the sand, it is pure joy to see how much jack loves this place. he doesn't have any care about hot, humid or sandy (as is evidenced by him running to give me a hug, full of sand!)... and he is especially loving it this week because his cousins are visiting from seattle. this is the first summer he can really play and interact with them and i'm sure he'll be talking about this until the next time he sees them. he has spend every minute we'll allow him to on the beach burying his trucks, digging them up and burying them again... pushing and getting pushed around in a raft or kayak, running around the beach and the in water, all with his huge toothy grin plastered all over his face.

unfortunately charlie got sick- the throwing up everything he eats kind of sick- and i can't handle hot, humid, sandy and puke. (ok, so this week it was cool, damp, sandy and pukey, but you get the idea). so charlie and i went home today and mike and jack stayed out in indiana. charlie is okay other than the puking and not eating. he's in good spirits and has no other symptoms. he and i hung out a lot today- because whatever is bothering him made him really clingy and so he wanted to be held all day. totally unusual for him. he wouldn't even let me put him down to sleep so he didn't end up going to bed until almost 9:30...

it is supposed to be a beautiful weekend this weekend. i can't wait for some good weather!
